STS joins PDO to give school staff HSE training

Petroleum Development Oman on Sunday (15th of May 2016) signed an agreement to give health, safety and environment (HSE) training to staff at schools in its concession area.

A press release stated that the one-month programme, which will be run in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, will assign an experienced Arabic-speaking HSE advisor to coach teachers and assistants on potential safety hazards and the correct procedures for dealing with them. Abdul Amir Abdul Hussein al Ajmi, external affairs and value creation director, PDO signed the agreement with Special Technical Services & Tebodin (STST).

The major contractors like STS & Tebodin will provide training for free under the terms of the agreement. Ajmi said, "Safety and corporate social responsibility are key priorities for PDO and we want to create a positive safety culture across our concession area, as well as ensuring schoolchildren are as safe as they can be."

The programme will cover the training in fire, electrical and chemical safety, housekeeping, hygiene, lifting and material handling, ergonomics, waste management and emergency response. Stephen Pickering of STST said, "STS & Tebodin is proud to work closely with PDO and others in this initiative to provide HSE education to Omani schools. We are fully committed to protecting the health, safety and environment within our work areas and now embrace this opportunity as part of our corporate social responsibility."
